Description |
This picture was likely taken from an early edition of the Advertiser or the Chief - early 1900s. In 1880 the first Christian Church was at the northeast corner of Second and Lucinda streets. Built new church at Third and Lucinda streets; dedicated December 25, 1898. Art glass windows designed by Allward of Des Moines. William Jennings Bryan spoke there in June 1902. Housed refugees from San Francisco earthquake in April 1906. Extensively renovated in 1924. Building damaged by windstorm in 1949 and declared unsafe. New church built on site and dedicated December 9, 1951. |
