Checkdate: YES Born 1869; came to Perry in 1893. With partner Theodore Trouth opened hardware store at corner of Third and Willis after buying W.H. Chandler's stock. Later moved store to Second Street between Lucinda and Warford; store destroyed in 1898 fire. January 1904 moved hardware store rear of Gamble Block. October 1912 to November 1914 he and George Gardner managed the roller rink on third floor of new Miller Building on Willis. Son Clarence purchased half interest in hardware store in January 1919 and business became known as Henry Miller & Son. Prominent businessman, property owner, school board member and entrepreneur. Part owner of Perry Auto Co. with R.B. Mitchell. Purchased Motor Inn in 1922. Member of Fourth Iowa Regiment (formerly the old Iowa Third/168th Infantry). Died February 22, 1933 when truck loaded with corn he was driving left highway and crashed into tree. |
